Your First Chiropractic Visit
New patient Forms
Upon entering our office, our receptionists will welcome you and request that you complete our new patient forms. This paperwork provides us with your health history and information about your condition.
Next, you will have a health consultation with one of our experienced doctors to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, and potential treatment options. This initial visit is designed for the doctor to learn more about you and your condition.
After your consultation, the doctor will perform a complete chiropractic examination. This will involve inspecting the injured area and performing certain specialized tests to delineate the exact injured tissue and to determine the root cause of your problem. Common tests include neurological and orthopaedic testing, posture analysis and functional movement screens. Radiographs (x-rays) and other form of imagining may be requested if necessary.
Report of Findings
Upon the completion of the health history and physical examination, the doctor will give you a detailed report of the exam findings, your diagnosis and then recommended a plan of management to help you recover as quickly as possible.
Based on the doctors finding and your diagnosis, a treatment plan will be developed for your specific condition. This may include spinal manipulation, acupuncture, ART®, physical rehabilitation, Laser Therapy or a number of other treatment options. If necessary the Chiropractor may choose to co-manage your case with another health care provider such as your family medical doctor or your nurse practitioner. This ensures that all aspects of your health are looked after in an optimal manner. Patients will be required to consent to all treatment and outside medical referrals before they are completed.
Cornwall Spine Care Plus offers a preventative care and wellness program designed to prevent future injuries and promote optimal health and function. To learn more about this program please make an appointment with one of our doctors.
Commonly Treated Conditions
Lower back pain is the number one cause of job-related disability and it is one of the most common ailments treated by Doctors of Chiropractic. Our primary goal with each patient is to determine the cause of the lower back pain. This usually involves a thorough examination with complete history, physical, and neurological examination with the possibility of imaging studies needed to make a precise diagnosis.
Once a cause is established, a variety of therapies may be indicated. If your back pain is a result of misalignment of the spine, herniated or bulged disc, or muscular dysfunction, Chiropractic adjustments as well as proper nutrition, ART, and rehabilitation is often prescribed. Acupuncture or massage therapy may also be advised.
Chiropractic care utilizes the body’s natural healing processes. Unfortunately, some conditions may warrant pharmacological or surgical intervention. In these rare cases, co-management by both your chiropractic and medical physician are necessary.
If you are experiencing back pain, stiffness, numbness, shooting pain, or any low back discomfort contact Cornwall Spine Care Plus+ to schedule an assessment with one of our highly skilled Chiropractors.
“The lifetime incidence of neck-related pain in the population has been reported to be as high as 67% with up to 54% of the population experiencing it within the last 6 months” (Todd et al, 2011). The cause of neck pain is different for each patient.
Some common types of neck pain include muscle strains, ligament sprains, arthritic changes, posterior joint (facet) pain, disc injuries, instability issues and whiplash injuries.
Successful treatment of neck pain usually involves a combination of chiropractic adjustments, active release technique, and a rehabilitation program to address any weaknesses. It is best to have your neck pain thoroughly examined by a doctor of chiropractic.
The chiropractors at Spine Care Plus+ are expertly trained to diagnose and recommend a treatment plan that best suits your unique condition.
Headaches can be excruciatingly painful and may severely limit the normal activities in your daily life. A headache can be a symptom of a more serious underlying conditions and it is of paramount importance that you have your headache assessed by a trained professional. There are several different classifications of headaches, and many can be relieved with proper conservative care (i.e. chiropractic, massage, and acupuncture). Often headaches are secondary to muscular contractions at the base of the head or dysfunctions within the joints of the cervical spine (neck). Sometimes they are brought on or aggravated by certain foods in your diet.
The chiropractic doctors at Cornwall Spine Care Plus+ will preform a thorough health history and physical examination to determine the cause and type of headache. This will include an examination of the cervical spine (neck) to determine if the pain relates to the spine and/or its surrounding muscles. Based on these finding a course of conservative care that best suites your specific condition will be recommended.
Commonly treated causes of head and face pain include:
- Cervicogenic Headache
- Migraine Headaches
- Sinus Pain
- TMJ Dysfunction (Jaw pain)
Whiplash is a term use to describe a force or abnormal motion applied to your body or neck, which results in the neck being forced beyond its normal range of motion.
This motion often leads to injuries of the soft tissues of the neck, including the ligaments, tendons and muscles of the neck. Whiplash can occur in multiple settings but most noted are motor vehicle accidents, sporting activities and falls. Whiplash Associated Disorder (WAD) describes the injury sequel and symptoms which can include pain and aching in the neck and back, referred pain into the shoulders, sensory disturbances such as pins and needles to the arms or legs and headaches.
WAD disorders need an appropriately designed rehabilitation program for the neck musculature alongside Chiropractic Care, Active Release Technique, Functional Range Release, Acupuncture and Spinal Manipulation.
If you believe you have suffered a whiplash injury please call us at Cornwall Spine Care Plus+ to book an assessment.
Who would think that one nerve could cause such severe pain? Pressure on the sciatic nerve can force even the most hesitant person to seek treatment.
Sciatica gets its name from the longest and largest nerve in the body, the sciatic nerve. It is composed of smaller nerve roots that join together in the pelvis, after they exit the lower spine. The sciatic nerve then travels down the entire length of each leg, dividing again into smaller nerves as it reaches the knees and the lower legs. Sciatica is defined as pain anywhere along the course of the sciatic nerve. This could be from the lower back down to the hips or buttocks, all the way down into our legs, feet and toes.
A Spine Care Plus+ doctor of chiropractic will examine the low back to determine if the pain relates to the spine and/or its surrounding muscles.
An in-depth history and exam can determine the cause of your discomfort and how best to treat it.

Chiropractic care during pregnancy? Absolutely! If there’s one group of people who need chiropractic spinal checkups more than any other, it’s pregnant women.
How Can Chiropractic Care Help During Pregnancy?
During pregnancy, weight-bearing changes occur. This can cause an added stress to the spine. Over the course of a 40-week gestation, a mother’s weight gain will ideally reach somewhere between 30-40 lbs. This increase in weight can create spinal misalignment and/or postural distortions, which in turn affect the nerves, the muscles and mobility of the joints. As the bulk of this weight is deposited in the abdominal area, the mother’s center of gravity shifts forward. In order to compensate, the natural curves of the spine, particularly in the lumbar region, become exaggerated causing low back pain.
The hips may also expand laterally to help stabilize the body, putting pressure on the sacroiliac joints. The hormones of pregnancy cause muscles, and ligaments to relax. Pelvic bones “slip” and can become more easily displaced and/or fixated.
As the baby grows and the body adapts, often the ribs must expand to accommodate. Rib misalignment is a common complaint of pregnant mothers, which is easily corrected by chiropractic adjustments and soft tissue therapy.
Chiropractic care during pregnancy not only improves your comfort but can also help facilitate your birth.
Chiropractic care during pregnancy has been shown to significantly reduce the length of time a woman labours. First time moms averaged a 24% shorter labour, while mothers who have already given birth experienced a 39% reduction in the average labour length, compared to controls (Fallon, 1991).
Chiropractic adjustments during pregnancy can also reduce the likelihood of experiencing back labour (Diakow, 1991). Regular chiropractic adjustments can safely continue up until the time of birth (Penna, 1989).
Pregnancy and the Webster Technique Defined
Sacral misalignment causes the tightening and torsion of specific pelvic muscles and ligaments. It is these tense muscles and ligaments and their constraining effect on the uterus, which prevents the baby from comfortably assuming the best possible position for birth.
The Webster Technique is defined as a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment that reduces interference to the nerve system and facilitates biomechanical balance in pelvic structures, muscles and ligaments. This has been shown to reduce the effects of intrauterine constraint, allowing the baby to get into the best possible position for birth. Dr. Larry Webster, Founder of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) discovered this technique as a safe means to restore proper pelvic balance and function for pregnant mothers. In expectant mothers presenting breech, there has been a high reported success rate of the baby turning to the normal vertex position. (This technique is not to be interpreted as an obstetric, “breech turning” technique which is a different procedure).
Is Chiropractic Care Safe During Pregnancy?
Chiropractic care during pregnancy is safe for both mother and fetus. Spinal adjustments are especially gentle during pregnancy, as far less force is required to correct misalignments. This is due to the increase in hormones causing significant muscle and ligamentous relaxation. Special positions are also used to provide comfort and safety for both mom and fetus.
Dr. Kylie Draper is fully certified in Webster’s perinatal chiropractic care. This training allows her to safely and effectively assess and manage the muscles, ligaments and joints of the body to promote optimal pelvic and spinal biomechanics during pregnancy. Pregnancy Massage therapy is also available.
A groin strain or pull is an injury to the inner muscles of the thigh. Groin strains occur through a variety of recreational activities but are most common in hockey, running and soccer.
The injury is related to hip muscle strength, integrity, and flexibility. It is common for other conditions to mimic groin strains (other causes of groin pain include a hernias, osteitis pubis, hip joint problems – i.e. arthritis, labral tears, capsular conditions – cumulative trauma disorders, and low back problems with nerve irritation) and thus a thorough examination by a doctor of chiropractic is needed to rule out other causes of groin symptoms.
The team at Cornwall Spine Care Plus+ is trained to properly diagnosis, treat, and rehabilitate groin strains.
