Why Chiropractic for Children?

Chiropractic care can play an important role in a child's overall healthand physical development. With the ever growing and changing bodies of active infants and children, chiropractic checkups can help ensure proper development of the musculoskeletal system and may also aid in the healing process of common day-to-day ailments.

The birthing process can be a traumatic experience for a baby. Commonly, physical interventions such as suction, hands-on assistance, or forceps extraction are used during delivery and the mechanical stress of this pulling and twisting can be injurious to the joints and soft tissue of a newborns spine. An experienced chiropractor, trained in pediatric care, can help assess for spinal issues and through the use of gentle adjustments and light joint mobilizations help correct any dysfunction, allowing the baby to develop in a healthy and natural way.Toddlerhood can also be a very physical time, with falls and tumblesbeing part of a normal active childhood. By addressing the minor stresses and strains on the body early, you can prevent them from becoming issues as they grow.

Is Chiropractic Care Safe for Children?

YES! There have been several large-scale research studies verifying the safety and effectiveness of chiropractic care for kids. The amount of force used to adjust an infant is comparable to the amount of force you use to test a ripe tomato at the grocery store: a very minute amount of pressure! This light touch approach is non-invasive and is often very soothing for the child. Generally, children respond much faster and more profoundly to chiropractic care than adults.

When Should I Start Bringing my Kids to The Chiropractor? It is never too early to bring your child to the chiropractor. Infants just minutes old are often checked by the loving hands of their family chiropractor. The birthing process is physically strenuous for both mom and baby, so it is best to get them both cared for as soon as possible. With that being said, it is never too late either! Children can enjoy the benefits of chiropractic care at any age or stage of development. Please note that, in children, pain is not a primary indicator of dysfunction. Certain clues can help parents know when their kids need to visit their chiropractor; these include signs such as: postural changes, only wanting to breast feed from one side, being off-balance, and running with a limp. Because it is often hard to judge when your child may need a treatment, we recommend setting regular well-child visits, the same way you would with your dentist and paediatrician. This will help to catch minor issues before they turn in to major problems, and will allow kids to truly maximize their health potential.

Our recommended well-child schedule:
